Do your kids come home from school starving? Mine sure do. Do they constantly ask for snacks throughout the weekend days? Mine sure do!
I try to always have healthy snacks on hand to give them the energy and brainpower they need throughout the day because what they eat is directly related to their brain’s growth, function, memory, and concentration.
A few of our family’s go-to snacks…
- Energy balls (high in oats, whole grains, healthy fats, protein, fiber)
- Fresh berries (high levels of antioxidants, especially vitamin C)
- Sliced colorful veggies (high levels of antioxidants for strong brain cells)
- Hard boiled eggs (high in protein & choline for memory development)
- Superfood popsicles (high in protein and vitamin B for essential growth of brain tissue)
I am focused on healthy brain function and have been adding the Childlife Essentials Pure Arctic Cod Liver Oil to my no-bake energy balls. Before you say ‘gross’ 😬 know that this oil is strawberry flavored, super mild, and fully undetectable in this recipe.
You’re getting whole grains, fiber, protein, healthy fats and so much more in these energy balls… PLUS I let my kids roll some of them in sprinkles for fun. Definitely helps them go down easy😋
Protein-Packed No-Bake Energy Balls
• 2 cups rolled oats (quick-cooking work great too)
• 1/4 cup ground flax
• 1/4 cup chia seeds
• 1/4 cup hemp hearts
• 1/4 cup maple syrup
• 3/4 cup nut or seed butter
• 2 Tbsp coconut oil
• 2 Tbsp Cod Liver Oil @childlifeessentials (strawberry flavored)
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/4 cup freeze-dried berries (crushed or pulsed in a blender)
• Sprinkles for rolling
Mix all ingredients (except sprinkles) in a bowl until dough forms. Roll the dough into small balls. Roll the balls through sprinkles (optional).
Freeze the energy balls on a plate for a few hours or overnight. Once frozen, store them in a container or @stasherbag in the freezer for easy access.
While I technically make these for the kids, I eat 2-3 of them almost every morning as I run out the door for school drop-offs, or soccer, or baseball 😆
